Palm oil, scientifically known as Elaeis guineensis, is being consumed by mankind since more than 5000 years ago. The oil is known to be first recognized in the West African countries.
The oil is most commonly used in food and beauty products. People in West Africa widely use Palm oil for cooking purposes.
Of the 60 million tonnes of oils and fats exported around the world, palm oil and palm kernel oil made up close to 60%. Malaysia is the largest exporter of Palm oil with approximately 45% of the market share.
