Castor oil is a vegetable oil made by extracting oil from the seeds of the Ricinus communis plant. The seeds are also known as castor beans. It comes in a colorless to very pale yellow liquid with a distinct flavor and smell.
This multi-purpose vegetable oil is used by people for thousands of years and it contains a toxic enzyme called ricin. Castor oil is used in multiple medicinal, industrial, and pharmaceutical purposes.
Today, castor oil and its derivatives are being utilized in the manufacturing of soaps, lubricants, hydraulic and brake fluids, paints, dyes, coatings, inks, cold resistant plastics, waxes, and polishes, nylon, pharmaceuticals, and perfumes.
