Coriander Seeds
Coriander Seeds
Coriander, scientifically termed as Coriandrum sativum, is known to be originated in Italy. Coriander was mentioned in the Bible, and the seeds have been known to be in the existence since 5000 B.C. The name is derived from the Greek word koris which mean a stink bug.
As per the records of 1550 BC, the seeds of coriander were used at burials. It was also recorded later to be used by the Romans, by Hippocrates, and other Greek physicians.
The seed is cultivated largely in the Netherlands, Central and Eastern Europe, the Mediterranean, North Africa, China, India, and Bangladesh. All parts of the herb are edible, but fresh leaves and dried seeds are commonly used in cooking.
