Sunflower, scientifically known as Helianthus Annuus, is known to be first domesticated by American Indians around 3000 BC. Sunflower seeds are the fruit of the sunflower, which are commonly consumed as a snack than part of a meal. The seeds are also sprouted and eaten in salads.
The three types of sunflower seeds – linoleic, high oleic, and sunflower oil seeds, are highly common for their consumption usage. Each type of seed has its own unique levels of monounsaturated, saturated, and polyunsaturated fats. To extract the oil from the seeds, they are usually pressed.
